The highest village in the Balkans (over 1500 meters. Altitude) is located only 70 km. from Plovdiv. Monastery is a village with a population of nearly 200 people, ancient forests and wondrous beauty. Its name derives from the alleged monastery, the remains of which are visible at the bottom of the village, where foundations of the ruined walls. The village is situated in a nature reserve and the forests abound with wild animals and plants protected.
The highest waterfall in the Balkans is called Raiskoto praskalo /Heavenly splash/ (height 124.5 meters). Only 64 km. from Plovdiv is located the Renaissance Kalofer and 4 km of it is the "Panitsite" locality from which is the walking route to the waterfall. There are about 4 hours to reach the hut "Paradise", located at the foot of "Praskaloto ". To get right to the waterfall itself, there are about 20 minutes transition from hut to him. For better orientation, the route is placed signs and instructions. Pass through the "Ponyaka", mountain pasture "Paradjika" enters the "Dzhendema" reserve and reached "Malkia kupen", which is located behind the waterfall. "Praskaloto" is powered by snowdrifts of Botev peak (the highest peak in the Balkan Mountains at an altitude 2376 m). Located in the central part of Stara Planina, the territory of National park "Central Balkan" and belongs to the territory of the reserve "Djendema."
